Monday November 2nd is the Loy Krathrong celebration. This is where all of Thailand sends out small little flower boats into the water. Basically it's the start of winter season in Thailand. The celebration has a few meanings.
1) Apologizing to the 'water gods' for polluting the water. It's ironic since some Krathongs are made from Styrofoam and put in the water.
2) A "Valentines Day" of sorts, with lovers sending out their Krathong (floating flower boat) with 2 baht and a few strands of hair.
Expect to see small kids in the water stealing the baht coins from the floating flower boats. The best parts of the Holiday are the beauty contests, which a few are on Walking Street in the evening and the larger bar Sois (Soi Buakaow, Soi 6,7,8). Also banging one of the whores on Soi 6 in their traditional Thai dresses.
